All environments are complex message systems telling people how to think, feel, and react. When designers consider media environments (web, television, social media, videos, apps) they design to inspire, or direct, what we see, say, and do, making visual design a key to increasing user engagement.

Interactive design in public relations, marketing, consumer engagement, and business-2-business is best framed through a thoughtful multi-lens approach to connect with users/audiences. Pairing user experience and user-centered design methods, for example, you can help to achieve buy-in, trust, and a sense of transparency. Then, looking at examples of successful design will inspire new ideas and promote continued learning.

Learn how to connect with your citizens on a deeper level through interactive data-driven storytelling, including:
  • Pairing other design approaches with data storytelling
  • Inter-agency collaboration for data and finding publicly sourced data
  • Identifying data storytelling tools/resources
  • Basics and types of data visualization
